المملكة: The Kingdom strengthens its health leadership.. A Saudi doctor wins an award "Arab doctor"
The year 2025 witnessed the emergence of Saudi names in Arab and international health awards, as Professor Sleep Medicine and Chest Diseases at the Faculty of Medicine at King Saud University, Director of the Sleep Medicine and Research Center at the university, Dr. Ahmed bin Salem Bahamam, received the Arab Doctor Award for the year 2025, granted by the Council of Arab Health Ministers, for the first category, "Scientific research and innovation"Research centers Saudi Arabia has made qualitative leaps in scientific production and innovation.
It has advanced in international rankings, and has become a regional and international research destination, a reflection of the wise leadership’s support for scientific research and human capital development within the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, including the Saudi health system receiving an award and (19) international medals at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions 2025, confirming its leadership in health innovation and developing smart solutions.
And also a win. Saudi health facilities won (9) prestigious international awards within the International Customer Experience Awards for the year 2025, which reflects the maturity of health transformation and the quality of services provided.
Developing health work
The Kingdom also contributes to the development of Arab health work by leading public health initiatives and combating epidemics, and developing health governance programs that have become a reference for a number of Arab countries, as well as providing its expertise in health transformation within the meetings of the Council of Arab Health Ministers, and encouraging health scientific research through Saudi universities, including the University of King Saud, which is considered one of the most prominent institutions supporting medical research in the region.
The Arab Physician Award was granted to Dr. Bahamam in accordance with Resolution No. (3) issued by the Council based on the recommendation of the Advisory Technical Committee and the Award Committee, in appreciation of his distinguished scientific contributions and pioneering research achievements in the field of sleep medicine and his innovation of advanced research programs that contributed to the development of this specialty at the Arab and international levels.
This was made during the announcement of the Council of Arab Health Ministers of the League of Arab States, during its regular session On the 18th of this December, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia won the first and second branches, and Egypt won the third branch.
The field of sleep medicine
At the beginning of this year, Dr. Bahamam achieved a new global achievement in the field of sleep medicine, as he ranked sixth in the world on the list of prominent scientists in this specialty during the past five years, according to the classification of the international ScholarGPS platform.
Dr. Bahamam is considered one of the pioneers of sleep medicine in the Arab region and the world, and he is the founder of the first academic research center. For Sleep Medicine in the Kingdom in 2002, he has more than (400) scientific papers published in internationally peer-reviewed journals, and about (10) books.
Dr. Bahmam currently holds the position of President of the Asian Society of Sleep Medicine, and a member of the editorial boards of a number of international medical journals.
