A man stabbed four adults and five children to death in Suriname
A man killed nine people, including five children, SurinameJenny Geerlings-Simmons The man, who appears to be suffering from psychological disorders, killed his children and neighbors.
A police statement said "On the night of Saturday 27 to Sunday 28 December, a man killed four adults and five children with a sharp object.
A sixth child and another adult were seriously injured and taken to the hospital."
Police intervention
The statement added that "The Eastern Region Police arrived at the site and had to open fire during the arrest of the suspect after the latter attacked their officers with a sharp object.
He was injured in the legs area and was transferred to the emergency department in an ambulance to receive medical care under police supervision."
The police indicated in its statement: "Additional information regarding the circumstances of this terrible attack will be provided at a later date"

The local media who went to the site of the accident in the east of the capital and spoke with neighbors revealed that the man was suffering from psychological disorders and that four of the children who were killed were his children.
President Jenny Gerlings-Simmons wrote in a post on X "At a time when family members and friends should support each other, we face a harsh reality that there is another side to the world.
A father killed his children and killed his neighbors. I wish all the bereaved people strength, courage and solace in this extremely difficult period".
