China targets a market value for the artificial intelligence industry of $142.5 billion within two years
BEIJING, 7 JANUARY / WAM / China is looking to grow its core artificial intelligence industry to exceed the value of one trillion yuan (about 142.5 billion dollars) within two years, through a new action plan.
Within the framework of this plan, the Chinese authorities will launch nine major initiatives targeting various sectors of the artificial intelligence industry with a focus on technological innovation.
The plan includes measures to attract the best talent, attract long-term capital, and support open source ecosystems. It also includes building a locally produced artificial intelligence computing cluster with a capacity of more than 100,000 chips, adding more than 10 new listed companies related to artificial intelligence, and developing more than 20 unicorn companies in this sector.
The Chinese Academy of Information and Communications Technology stated that the artificial intelligence sector in China has witnessed strong growth, as the number of companies in this field exceeded 5,300 companies as of September 2025, representing 15% of the global total.
