"ADNOC" It achieves more than half of its goal of planting 10 million mangrove trees by 2030

ABU DHABI, 15 JANUARY / WAM / His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Managing Director and CEO of ADNOC and its group of companies, planted the 5 millionth mangrove tree, as part of ADNOC’s efforts to preserve biodiversity, during his visit to the mangrove forest in the Al Noof area in Abu Dhabi.
With this achievement, ADNOC has achieved more than half of its goal of planting 10 million mangrove trees by 2030, strengthening its efforts to contribute to protecting biodiversity by implementing scalable, widely applicable, nature-based solutions that support the UAE’s goal of planting 100 million mangrove trees by 2030 and achieve long-term value and a tangible positive impact on the country.
On this occasion, His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber said that, in line with the vision of the wise leadership to preserve biological diversity as a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development, preserving the environment is a major priority within ADNOC’s strategy, and embodies its commitment to creating long-term sustainable value for the UAE and the communities in which we operate.
He pointed out that they have made significant progress towards achieving ADNOC’s goal of planting 10 million mangrove trees by 2030, by utilizing advanced technologies to support biodiversity and provide energy supplies responsibly to contribute to meeting the needs of economies and societies.
The ADNOC Mangrove Planting Program, which was launched in 2023, uses advanced technology supported by artificial intelligence developed in the UAE to operate drones and use them to plant trees efficiently and on a large scale. The program also benefits from advanced monitoring tools, including machine learning techniques, to follow the growth and condition of mangrove trees and successful efforts to restore them, over time.
Community involvement is a key pillar of ADNOC’s mangrove planting initiative, and in 2025 more than 1,000 volunteers participated in planting activities, contributing thousands of working hours to support environmental conservation efforts.
Since the launch of the program, about 6,000 people have participated in mangrove planting, coastal clean-up, and biodiversity restoration initiatives in Abu Dhabi, including volunteers from schools, people of determination, and various segments of society, in addition to ADNOC employees who contributed effectively in all stages of the program.
During the year 2024, ADNOC joined the Abu Dhabi “Plant the Emirates” initiative to plant mangrove trees, which was launched by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, with the aim of accelerating the pace of restoring mangrove forests, enhancing scientific research, and encouraging the participation of the private sector and the local community. These efforts are in line with the national program “Plant the Emirates” and the “Trillion Trees” initiative of the World Economic Forum.
