London confirms that Washington will not use its bases in Cyprus against Iran

The British Prime Minister confirmed Keir Starmer that the United States will not use British military bases in Cyprus vs The Akrotiri base on Sunday night was the first to target a member country in the European Union since the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran on Saturday.

The attack raised concern for the Cypriot government, which announced that it intends to request guarantees from London to limit the use of the British bases on its territory for humanitarian purposes.

Specific defensive objectives

Starmer said, speaking in Parliament, that these bases "It has not been used and will not be used by the United States".

He added that "The bombing of the Akrotiri base in Cyprus was not a response to any decision we made. According to our assessment, the march was launched before our announcement."
Starmer explained to Parliament that this decision was taken after a separate request made by the United States "For specific defense objectives, in particular the legitimate common defense of our allies and the protection of British lives"

The attack was launched from Lebanon

The base was hit a few hours after Stammer announced that he had authorized the United States to use British bases against Iran.

A Cypriot government source told Agence France-Presse that the attack was launched from neighboring Lebanon, most likely by Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran.

The source confirmed that it was confirmed that drones, one of which hit a runway, were launched from Lebanon. When asked whether Hezbollah was the one who launched it, the source answered "probably"

British media said that what was meant was the Diego Garcia base located in the Indian Ocean, in addition to the Fairford base in southwest England.
