DP World discusses plans to develop the Rawda Special Economic Zone in the Sultanate of Oman

High-level officials from the Sultanate of Oman and DP World Group reviewed the progress in developing the Rawdah Special Economic Zone, stressing the project’s growing role in enhancing economic integration and advancing sustainable industrial development.

This came during the meeting that brought together the Chairman of the General Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones in the Sultanate of Oman, Qais bin Muhammad Al-Yousef, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of DP World Group, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, at the Authority’s headquarters in Muscat Governorate.

During the meeting, they discussed the latest achievements achieved, the next stages of implementing this strategic project, and the roadmap for implementing the first phase of development and operation.

In line with the approved master plan, the area – which extends over an area of 14 square kilometers allocated to the developer – has been designed with the flexibility to expand to 24 square kilometers in the second phase, reflecting expected investor demand and long-term growth goals.

The project development agreement was signed on May 26, 2025. Al Rawda Special Economic Zone is located in Al Rawda District in the Wilayat of Mahdha, Buraimi Governorate, and enjoys an important strategic location along the main regional trade corridors.

The region benefits from easy direct access to the main road network in the Sultanate of Oman, and its proximity to important regional logistics hubs, including Sohar Port and Jebel Ali Port in the Emirate of Dubai.

The region is about 85 kilometers from Buraimi and 125 kilometers from the state of Sohar, which enhances its role as a gateway for trade and industrial cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

The project is expected to attract high-value investments in the logistics, light manufacturing and industrial services sectors, while at the same time supporting job creation, knowledge transfer and achieving the economic diversification goals of Oman 2040 Vision.

His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said that Al Rawdah Special Economic Zone represents a strategic platform to enable trade, industrial growth and regional communication between the Sultanate of Oman and the UAE. DP World Group is committed to developing the region in cooperation with the General Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, benefiting from its global experience in the field of logistics services and the development of economic zones, to create a competitive and future environment that achieves long-term value for investors and local communities alike.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination to ensure the project is completed on time and in accordance with agreed standards, while maintaining the momentum of work during the subsequent development stages.
