المملكة: 19 families and 27 species… revealing the complete botanical identity of the Al-Jawf region

reveal The National Afforestation Program announced an integrated plant roadmap for the Al-Jawf region, precisely specifying the most prominent local species suitable for agriculture and the extent of their spread in their natural environments, within the framework of its comprehensive national movement to lead afforestation initiatives and direct the compass towards the most sustainable species, which contributes directly to achieving the goals of the “Saudi Green Initiative” and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

The program stressed that this step aims strategically to develop the vegetation cover and combat the deterioration of vegetation. lands, with a focus on establishing a culture of sustainable afforestation in local communities, and enhancing awareness of the importance of relying exclusively on local plants capable of adapting to the Saudi environment to ensure the sustainability of natural resources and reduce waste.

A wide variety of plants

The technical studies of the program indicated that Vegetation in the Al-Jawf region is distributed across highly diverse terrain environments, including dunes, sand plains, and highlands, passing through meadows, valleys, and plateaus, all the way to environments of a special nature, such as sabkhas and extensions of the Great Nafud Desert.

Field surveys showed that the region embraces a wide variety of trees, shrubs, perennial herbs, annuals, and grasses, which vary in their density of distribution, led by species Authentic species such as salam, shuraa, shaaran and qatf, along with the mare, ragal, rutha, hadha, qadhad and ghada, which form an essential part of the environmental identity of the region.

The approved list of species suitable for the local environment included the plants of ramth, tamaha, jalman and arn, in addition to the damran, qaysum, al-arfaj, al-asaf and tambourine, leading to vital species that include shahiba, gharqad, wild sidr, Arabian almond, bramble, wild iris and sorrel, which It provides wide options for afforestation projects.

The program indicated that this great plant diversity comes from multiple scientific strains and species that reflect the unique biological richness of Al-Jawf, the most important of which are the leguminous, amaranth, oleander, oleander, and cabbage species, in addition to the nightshade, rhubarb, cedar, rhododendron, and chrysanthemum species. Mustard greens, in addition to Alanda, Iris, Najila, and Shafia, represent an essential pillar in the strategy of increasing green spaces and restoring the environmental balance in the region according to well-studied scientific foundations.
