Dubai hosts the tenth session of "Breakbulk Middle East"

DUBAI, 4th February, 2018 (WAM) – The Breakbulk Middle East Exhibition and Conference kicked off today at the Dubai World Trade Center, marking the holding of its tenth session, with the expected participation of more than 11,000 visitors, including experts, specialists, and decision-makers in the specialized cargo shipping and project logistics sector, at a time when the sector is witnessing rapid transformations driven by growing investment flows, geopolitical developments, and developments in trade corridors that are redrawing the map of shipping movement in the Middle East and beyond.

The event was opened by His Excellency Eng. Hessa Al Malek, Advisor to the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure for Maritime Transport Affairs, stressing that the UAE continues to pump strategic investments into the infrastructure, energy, and transportation corridors sectors in a way that supports economic growth, enhances regional connectivity, and consolidates the country’s position as a global center for logistics services, noting that specialized events such as Breakbulk Middle East contribute to coordinating the efforts of governments and the private sector to raise the efficiency of implementing major projects on a large scale.

The event is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and brings together an elite group of leaders and decision-makers to discuss the prospects for developing supply chains, enhancing their flexibility, diversifying trade corridors and raising operational readiness in light of the growing demand for transporting heavy goods and huge loads associated with energy, industry and infrastructure projects in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

During the sessions, DB World representatives reviewed the performance of Jebel Ali Port, which handled more than 5.6 million tons of bulk cargo during 2025, recording an annual growth of 6 percent, which reflects the strength of integrated operations in ensuring the continuity of efficient freight flow even in light of operational challenges.

The participants also discussed transport targets of up to 95 million tons annually by 2045 via railway networks in the GCC countries, which will contribute to reducing pressure on ports and reducing carbon emissions, in addition to integrating land and sea transport into more integrated systems, while representatives of DHL Industrial Projects stressed the importance of advance planning, risk assessment, and coordinating routes to ensure the safety of high-value shipments.

Dubai continues to strengthen its position as a global maritime center, benefiting from continuous investments in ports, transport corridors and communication networks, which supports the region’s competitiveness and enhances the growth of international trade.
