المملكة: Maintaining and asphalting 1,100 km of roads to facilitate the movement of the pilgrims


Declared The General Authority for Roads is fully prepared for the Guests of God in Ramadan1447 AH, by surveying and maintaining a road network exceeding 16 thousand km, and recruiting 300 engineers to ensure safe and smooth access for pilgrims, in order to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

The General Authority of Roads has completed all its operational and technical preparations to receive the Umrah season, aiming to provide a safe and smooth transportation experience for visitors of the Two Holy Mosques and the Holy Sites.

Survey Comprehensive

The authority began its field preparations early through a comprehensive survey of the road network in the regions of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Medina, and the roads connecting them and leading to them, to ensure their safety.

The completed work included scraping and re-asphalting more than 1,100 kilometers of tracks, to raise the efficiency of the roads and ensure the smooth flow of traffic for buses and vehicles during the holy month.

Safety factors

Technical teams were strengthened Safety factors include implementing and maintaining about 58,900 linear meters of wire fencing, to prevent stray animals from entering the right of way and protect its users.

The Authority completed the maintenance of 8,600 culverts to drain rainwater and floods, to ensure the continuity of traffic movement and not be affected by any possible weather conditions.

Concrete barriers

The plan included the implementation and maintenance of more than 59,500 linear meters of concrete barriers.

The Authority has allocated an integrated field work team that includes 300 engineers and quality monitors, working around the clock to monitor performance and ensure immediate treatment of any observations.

These efforts seek to achieve the strategic objectives of the road sector, by reaching sixth place globally in the quality index, and reducing deaths to less than 5 cases per 100,000 people.

/>The authority works in accordance with the standards of the International Road Assessment Program (IRAP) to raise the level of traffic safety, thus enhancing the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics center and improving the experience of the pilgrims.
