To promote sustainable transportation… 636 km of bicycle paths in Dubai

Dubai, June 21 / WAM / The Emirate of Dubai is developing an integrated network of bicycle paths, through which it promotes environmentally friendly modes of transportation, within the framework of the objectives of the Dubai Urban Plan 2040, which aims to build a more sustainable and resilient city, and provide safe and effective transportation options for residents and visitors.
The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai is implementing development plans for the infrastructure for bicycle paths, which enhances the connection between residential, commercial and entertainment areas, and supports the shift towards sustainable means of transportation that contribute to reducing carbon emissions and improving the quality of life.
According to data from the Authority, the total length of bicycle paths in Dubai reached 636 kilometers by the end of 2025, while the emirate aims to raise the total length of the network to about 1,000 kilometers by 2030.
The bicycle path network currently covers a number of vital, recreational and residential areas, and extends from the city centre, including Sheikh Hamad bin Rashid Boulevard and the Town Center Roundabout – Dubai, passing through Jumeirah, Business Bay, the Dubai Water Canal, Al Khawaneej and Al Warqa, in addition to the Saih Al Salam paths designated for sports enthusiasts, and the garden paths that connect the Gulf to Al Mizhar.
And the power.
The authority is working to expand the network and connect more residential and commercial areas to mass transit stations, with the aim of establishing an integrated and safe network by 2030.
The increasing demand for the use of bicycles reflects the success of plans aimed at promoting a culture of sustainable mobility in the emirate, as the number of trips on bicycle paths in Dubai reached about 57.3 million trips during the year 2025, compared to 46.6 million trips during the year 2024, recording a growth of 23.5%.
This increase reflects the success of the emirate’s plans to promote a culture of sustainable mobility and develop a safe and integrated infrastructure for bicycles, in addition to the increasing interest of residents and visitors in using them for the purposes of transportation, entertainment and sports.
Some paths stand out as being the most used by the public, most notably the paths located in lively and recreational areas, such as the Jumeirah Path, known for its distinctive views, in addition to the Saih Al Salam Path, which is a favorite destination for long-distance cycling enthusiasts.
The nature of use varies according to the location and purpose. Outdoor trails are often used for sports and fitness, while urban trails within the city serve daily transportation and short trips, reflecting the trail network’s ability to meet the needs of different segments of society.
The network of bicycle paths contributes directly to achieving the goals of the sustainable mobility strategy in Dubai, by providing practical and environmentally friendly alternatives for transportation within the city, and reducing dependence on private vehicles and the associated carbon emissions.
Supporting the “first and last mile” strategy is one of the most prominent roles of bicycle paths in Dubai, as it facilitates people’s access to and from public transportation in a comfortable and efficient manner, and supports integration between various means of transportation.
It also allows metro and bus users to complete their trips using bicycles instead of private vehicles, which enhances connectivity between different means of transportation and reduces traffic congestion and carbon emissions. In this context, the Authority is working to provide 3/3 private parking for bicycles near the stations, in addition to developing paths linking residential, commercial and service complexes to the public transportation network.
In Dubai, the Authority launched a set of initiatives aimed at encouraging the use of bicycles and individual means of transportation, the most prominent of which is the bicycle rental system in cooperation with the private sector, which allows bicycle rental in various areas of the city, in addition to the spread of thousands of bicycles and parking stations in strategic locations near metro stations and vital areas.
