The Cape Verde national team continues its adventure in the World Cup and imposes a draw on Uruguay

The Cape Verde national team continued its adventure in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in America, Mexico and Canada, and succeeded in obtaining the second point in the tournament after forcing Uruguay to a 2-2 draw, today, Monday, in the second round of Group H.
The Cape Verdean national team had forced Spain, the 2010 world champion, to a goalless draw in the first round in Atalanta, but not only did it draw with Uruguay, the two-time world champion, but also scored its first two goals in its first participation in the World Cup in its history.
Cape Verde took the lead in the 21st minute through Kevin Pena, which was the first goal in the history of the African country in the World Cup, but Uruguay scored an equalizer through Maximiliano Araujo in the 44th minute.
In the sixth minute of stoppage time in the first half, Agustin Canobbio scored Uruguay’s second goal, then Helio Varela took advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Fernando Muslera to score the second goal for Cape Verde in the 61st minute.
With this result, the Cape Verde national team has a great opportunity to reach the round of 32 if it wins the third match against Saudi Arabia on Saturday, while the Uruguay national team will be required to do the same thing against Spain on the same day.
