Hakimi is referred to trial on rape charges

Moroccan international and French Paris Saint-Germain player Achraf Hakimi was referred to trial on charges of raping a young woman in February 2023, according to what Agence France-Presse learned on Tuesday from the player’s lawyer and the public prosecutor in Nanterre.

The player said on the

The 27-year-old Moroccan international added, “I am calmly awaiting this trial, which will allow the truth to be revealed to the public.”

In late February 2023, the then 24-year-old young woman, like the player, first went to a police station in Val-de-Marne, where she announced that she had been raped, without filing a complaint.

The player’s lawyer, Fanny Colan, said, “A trial is being imposed if there is an accusation based on the word of only one woman. She obstructed all investigations, refused all medical examinations and DNA research, refused to extract her mobile phone data, and refused to give the name of a key witness.”

Colan considered that “the two psychological evaluations” of the plaintiff “revealed her lack of clarity regarding the facts that she claims to report,” noting in particular that she “tried to hide from the judiciary several messages that she exchanged with one of her friends in which they planned to “rob” Mr. Hakimi.”

For her part, and after the prosecution’s arguments, which had requested that the football player be referred on charges of rape, Bardot said that “nothing in this file allows for the description of an extortion attempt.”

She added, “We will not accept any campaign of defamation or destabilization, as unfortunately often happens to women who have the courage to report the rape crimes they are exposed to.” She continued, “We await this trial with determination so that justice can be achieved.”

Hakimi worked at Real Madrid in Spain, and is considered one of the pillars of the Moroccan national team that reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

He joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, where he is currently the team’s second captain, after previous stops at Germany’s Borussia Dortmund and Italy’s Inter Milan.
