To keep your skin youthful…that’s what collagen offers

A recent scientific review showed that collagen supplements may improve skin elasticity and hydration with daily use, but they do not prevent the appearance of wrinkles or stop the signs of aging completely, according to a report published by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

The researchers explained that collagen, the natural protein that supports the skin, bones, and connective tissues, contributes to significantly improving skin health when taking the supplements regularly, but it is not a quick solution that shows its effect overnight.

The results of 113 scientific experiments that included about 8,000 people indicated that collagen may also help relieve fatigue and stress, and reduce joint pain and stiffness, which reflects a growing interest in studying its effects on general health and healthy aging.

The researchers warned against exaggeration in commercial advertisements, noting that some previous studies were funded by supplement manufacturing companies, which may lead to exaggeration of their benefits. The professor confirmed Lee Smithone of the senior participants in the study, said that collagen shows reliable benefits in the long term, but it is not a cure-all for all diseases or to treat wrinkles directly.

The researchers indicated that the best results may be achieved when collagen is integrated into a comprehensive skin care system, especially for people who are elderly or exposed to sunlight. “Improved skin tone and increased hydration are associated with a more youthful appearance, which explains the increasing interest in collagen in skin care strategies,” Smith said.

The study concluded that collagen is a supportive element within an integrated health approach, and not a magic solution that prevents wrinkles or stops aging.
