A simple choice may change your skin.. What is the difference between lotion and cleanser?

Cleansing the skin is an essential step in any skin care routine, as its role is not only limited to removing dirt and impurities, but also contributes to maintaining the skin’s balance, its protective barrier, and its ability to absorb the active ingredients in care products. With the spread of the terms “face wash” and “skin cleanser,” a common question arises as to whether they perform the same function or whether each of them has a different role.
Although the primary goal of both products is to cleanse the skin, they differ in composition and method of action. Facial wash usually comes in a foam or gel formula that contains cleansing materials that deeply remove fats and impurities, and relies on foam to break down oils and clean pores.
As for skin cleansers, they include a cream cleanser suitable for dry and sensitive skin, an oil cleanser that helps remove makeup and sunscreen, micellar water that provides quick and gentle cleansing without rinsing, in addition to a cleansing balm that dissolves heavy impurities.
Skin care experts confirm that choosing the appropriate product depends on the skin type and its needs. Facial wash is more suitable for oily or acne-prone skin, especially after sweating or exercise, due to its ability to remove excess fat and deeply clean the pores.
On the other hand, skin cleanser is suitable for those with dry or sensitive skin, and it is preferable to use it in the morning routine or to gently remove makeup, because it helps maintain the skin’s natural barrier and prevents dryness.
The ingredients play an essential role in the effectiveness of these preparations. The most prominent components of the face wash include salicylic acid, which helps clean pores, glycolic acid, which contributes to exfoliating the skin, in addition to activated charcoal, which absorbs fats, and zinc, which contributes to regulating fatty secretions.
As for skin cleansers, they often contain ceramides to strengthen the skin barrier, hyaluronic acid to moisturize, glycerin to keep the skin soft, in addition to vegetable oils that nourish the skin.To achieve the best results in skin cleansing, experts advise following specific steps. When using a face wash, it is preferable to wet the skin with lukewarm water, then gently massage a small amount of the product for about 30 seconds before rinsing the face, drying it, and applying moisturizer.
As for the skin cleanser, it can be used on dry or wet skin, depending on its type, massaged to dissolve impurities, then wiped or rinsed.
Skin care experts point out that using a gentle cleanser in the morning, and using a double cleansing method in the evening by applying cleanser first and then face wash, may help achieve a better balance for the skin and avoid excessive cleansing, which may weaken its natural barrier and cause irritation.
