$33.6 billion value of information and communications technology exports in Korea during February

SEOUL, March 12, 2017 (WAM) – The Republic of Korea’s exports of ICT products more than doubled year-on-year during the month of February, with chip exports rising amid the global artificial intelligence boom, according to data issued Thursday by the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT, and Communications.
The Korean Yonhap News Agency reported that the ministry’s data showed that exports of information and communications technology products during February amounted to 33.6 billion US dollars, compared to 16.5 billion dollars during the same period last year, recording a sharp increase on an annual basis despite the decrease in the number of working days. This is the highest level in terms of value during any month of February.
The data showed that imports rose by 19.6% to reach $13 billion, leading to a trade surplus of $20.5 billion.
The ministry said in a statement that ICT exports constituted 49.8% of the country’s total exports, which amounted to $67.45 billion during the past month.
