Smart proactive initiatives that enhance Dubai’s global leadership in road quality and sustainable mobility

Dubai, April 27 / WAM / The road system in Dubai embodies an advanced shift towards proactive management based on artificial intelligence and big data analysis, in an integrated approach that contributed to achieving global leadership in road quality by 96.65%, within a framework that supports the goals of quality of life and sustainable mobility in the emirate.

This transformation is based on employing advanced technologies to monitor the condition of roads without affecting traffic movement, most notably a laser crack measurement technology, in addition to roughness measuring devices that determine the IRI index with high accuracy, as this data is integrated within the Pavement Management System (PMS) that analyzes the actual condition of the roads and sets accurate proactive maintenance scenarios.

This technical integration was reflected in the quality of infrastructure, not only in terms of efficiency, but also in terms of traffic safety, as early detection of damages and their treatment before they worsened contributed to raising the level of driving comfort, reducing vibrations, and reducing the risks associated with the deterioration of the road surface, which enhanced the flow of traffic, and raised the driving comfort index to 89%.

This model relies on intelligent asset management through big data analysis according to the 5VS model, which allows predicting future rates of deterioration, determining intervention priorities, and preparing short- and long-term maintenance plans, within a framework that enhances the efficiency of decision-making and supports Dubai’s trends towards a flexible and sustainable infrastructure.

In parallel, the (1 Traffic) system supports traffic management by analyzing live data and predicting future traffic, which allows for immediate traffic responses to reduce congestion, and displays solutions directly on smart panels spread across the emirate, within an integrated operational system based on artificial intelligence.

The proactive approach also extended to road asset management using LiDAR technology, which contributed to building an accurate and integrated infrastructure database, which led to raising the efficiency of asset management, improving planning for maintenance work, and reducing operational and emergency costs, achieving a score of 95% in the road asset quality index.

These results confirm that integration between smart technologies and big data is no longer a development option, but rather has become a basis for managing an advanced road network, balancing efficiency, sustainability and safety, and supports Dubai’s position as one of the world’s leading cities in quality infrastructure.

And smart mobility.
