The Qatari team imposed an exciting and valuable draw on its Swiss counterpart with a goal for each, in the match that was held at Levi’s Stadium in California, for the first round of the second group competitions for the 2026 World Cup finals, so that “Al Annabi” obtained the first point in the history of its participation in the World Cup.
The Qatari team presented a heroic match and a high fighting spirit throughout the two halves, to emerge with a valuable point at the beginning of its journey in the group, which includes Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina alongside them.
The Swiss team scored the first goal early in the seventeenth minute of the first half through striker Brielle Embolo via a penalty kick that he successfully executed, after Remo Freuler was obstructed inside the penalty area by goalkeeper Mahmoud Abundi. The Qatari players did not give up after the goal, but rather continued to organize their ranks and rely on quick and dangerous counterattacks led by the star Akram Afif, amid great defensive heroism and the remarkable brilliance of goalkeeper Abundi, who prevented Switzerland from consolidating the lead on more than one occasion.
In the second half, goalkeeper Abu Nada continued his brilliance in confronting the attacks of the Swiss team, before Khoukhi Boualem scored the equalizing goal in the fatal time, so that the match ended in a draw.
