"ADNOC Logistics and Services" It takes delivery of its sixth new-generation liquefied natural gas carrier to boost global energy flows

ABU DHABI, 27 APRIL / WAM / ADNOC Logistics and Services PLC announced today that it has received “Al Taweelah”, the sixth new liquefied natural gas tanker with a capacity of 175,000 cubic meters from the Chinese “Jiangnan” shipyard, which will contribute to strengthening the company’s fleet and enabling reliable transportation of energy to global markets.

The tanker is part of an order to purchase a fleet of liquefied natural gas tankers worth 4.4 billion dirhams ($1.2 billion) submitted in 2022, as part of supporting the expansion and modernization of the company’s fleet to meet the growing demand in global energy markets with greater efficiency.

On this occasion, Captain Abdul Karim Al Musabi, CEO of ADNOC Logistics and Services, said: “Each new tanker enhances our ability to provide reliable transportation services for energy and basic commodities across international routes, especially at a time when supply chains are experiencing increasing pressure. We continue to expand the capacity of our fleet in close line with customer demand, allowing us to take advantage of commercial opportunities and providing a long-term vision for profits. This will also reflect on our investors by achieving sustainable value and returns for shareholders.”

One LNG cargo with a capacity of 175,000 cubic meters contains approximately 1.1 terawatt-hours of energy, equivalent to the average winter gas demand of about 100,000 homes in Central Europe.

LNG is a major contributor to enhancing supply flexibility and supports the balance of the energy system during periods of peak demand.

Most of ADNOC Logistics and Services’ additional capacity was allocated to transporting liquefied natural gas through long-term contracts with external customers and companies affiliated with the ADNOC Group. Nearly 60% of the revenues of the company and its joint venture, AW Shipping, are secured through long-term contracts.

This disciplined business strategy ensures that capacity expansion translates into revenue growth and enhances the company’s profitable performance.

The expansion of the company’s fleet capacity is in line with the general growth path of the ADNOC Group, supporting its operations in the refining and manufacturing sector, and enhancing the UAE’s role in the global energy supply chain.

The naming and handover ceremony for the new “Tawila” tanker was held at the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai, in the presence of Mona Moussa, Director of General Services at ADNOC Logistics and Services.

At the operational level, the new LNG carriers with a capacity of 175,000 cubic meters are equipped with advanced, highly energy-efficient technologies, to reduce methane emissions by up to 50% compared to previous carrier technology.

These advantages underscore ADNOC Logistics and Services’ commitment to operational efficiency, reducing emissions, improving cost performance, and ensuring responsible energy transportation.

ADNOC Logistics and Services continues to expand its global fleet to support customer demand for reliable transportation of energy and basic commodities.

In addition to the six LNG carriers received so far, the company has a strong program of ships under construction that includes seven giant ethane tankers and four giant ammonia tankers, as part of an order worth 7 billion dirhams ($1.9 billion) concluded in 2024 by AW Shipping Company, its strategic joint venture with the Chinese Wanhua Chemical Industries Group.

In the same year, ADNOC Logistics and Services also ordered eight liquefied natural gas tankers worth up to 9.2 billion dirhams ($2.5 billion) from Samsung Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean, enhancing its international growth path.
