"international cars" Highlights on traffic safety and sustainable mobility with senior Czech officials

Prague, June 10, 2017 (WAM) – Emirati Mohammed bin Sulayem, President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), reviewed the issues of traffic safety, sustainable mobility, and the development of motorsport, during his meetings with His Excellency Petr Pavel, President of the Czech Republic, and Andrej Babiš, Prime Minister, in the capital, Prague, as part of an official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation in the fields of mobility and motorsport.

The Federation explained in its statement today that the visit also included a meeting with Boris Stastny, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, and the discussions focused on a number of common priorities in the transportation and motorsport sectors, including road safety, sustainable transport, innovation, and expanding community participation in sporting activities.

Mohammed bin Sulayem stressed that the Czech Republic has a long history in the automobile industry and motor sports, and continues to provide a distinguished model in integrating the concepts of mobility, innovation and sports.

During the meetings, Bin Sulayem reviewed the FIA’s efforts to enhance traffic safety through data-based initiatives, most notably the FIA ​​Traffic Safety Index and the Drivers’ Safety Index, which provide governments, organizations and road users with practical tools to measure and develop safety levels in a way that contributes to reducing deaths and injuries resulting from traffic accidents.

He also highlighted the role played by the Czech Automobile Club in enhancing access to motorsport and increasing its diversity, through its educational, awareness-raising and competitive programs targeting different age groups.

He pointed to the contributions of club president Jan Stowiczek to the FIA ​​system, through his membership in the World Motor Sports Council, his presidency of the Coordination Forum for Eastern and Central European Countries, and his membership in the Board of Directors of the FIA ​​Foundation.

Bin Sulayem discussed the programs developed by the Czech Automobile Club with the support of grants from the International Automobile Federation and its Foundation, most notably the “Karting Academy,” which has attracted more than 1,000 children so far, and has resulted in the participation of a number of its graduates in international competitions, in addition to the “Racer Buggy 160” program intended for children aged 5 to 8 years to develop autocross racing skills, while more than 3,000 children have graduated from the academy over the past seven years.

He praised the Czech Automobile Club’s continued investment in karting races, national championships and youth programmes, stressing the importance of these initiatives in supporting the future of motorsport in the Czech Republic.

For his part, Jan Stovicek, President of the Czech Automobile Club, stressed the importance of the support provided by the International Automobile Federation to motorsport development programs, pointing out that these grants contribute to developing the sport at the grassroots level, investing in young talents, and providing new opportunities for participation and interaction.

The visit comes as part of the ongoing communication program implemented by the President of the International Automobile Federation with governments, member clubs and concerned parties around the world, in support of the Federation’s efforts aimed at promoting safe, sustainable and accessible mobility for all, and ensuring the continued growth and development of motor sport.
