Rome, May 25 / WAM / The Emirates –
The second week witnessed a remarkable presence of the team in the various stages of the race, as the Danish cyclist Mikkel Bjerg gave an outstanding performance in the individual time trial race for a distance of 42 km, finishing eighth, while the Italian Filippo Ganna was crowned the stage champion.
The most prominent stations of the week came in the eleventh stage, when Narvaez started in the lead group more than 80 kilometers before the finish line, and entered into a tactical struggle with Spaniard Enrique Mas, before clinching the victory in the final meters, achieving his third victory in the race.
The team also continued its offensive presence in the thirteenth stage, with Bjerg participating in the escape group and finishing the stage seventh, before Narvaez succeeded in the fourteenth stage in collecting enough points to snatch the purple jersey, despite Dane Jonas Wengegaard winning the stage and topping the overall standings.
In the fifteenth stage, Narvaez lost the lead in the points standings to Frenchman Paul Manet after a strong competition for the medium speed points, while Norwegian Frederik DeFresnes from the Uno-X Mobility team won the stage after the escape group held on until the end.
The Emirates Cycling Team enters the final week of the race with great ambitions to continue competing for stage victories and the points jersey, with the decisive mountain stages approaching that will determine the features of the final standings before arriving in Rome.
