Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Dubai Municipality raise awareness of the business community about food safety controls

Dubai, 7 June / WAM / The Dubai Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with Dubai Municipality, organized a workshop aimed at educating the business community about the latest controls and regulations related to food safety in the emirate, as part of the efforts made by the Chamber to support the business environment and enhance companies’ commitment to legislation and laws. The workshop attracted 57 representatives of private sector companies operating in food-related sectors.
Maha Al Gergawi, Vice President of the Business Community Interest Support Sector at Dubai Chambers, stressed the Chamber’s keenness to empower the business community by providing the necessary knowledge and resources to keep pace with the regulations and laws regulating all sectors, which contributes to enhancing companies’ awareness of legislative and regulatory requirements, and supports their ability to comply with approved best practices.
Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafie, Acting Executive Director of the Environment, Health and Safety Foundation in Dubai Municipality, delivered a speech during the workshop, in which she affirmed the municipality’s commitment to providing various forms of support to the food sector, as it is one of the most important and vital economic sectors in the emirate.
She said that Dubai Municipality is keen to harness all its capabilities to ensure the smooth entry of food through the emirate’s ports, which contributes to strengthening the food security system, while ensuring the safety of imported and traded foods and protecting society from the risks of food-borne diseases, in confirmation of its continuing efforts to provide a sustainable and safe food and health system that enhances the quality of life of the emirate’s residents.
The workshop participants reviewed the basic pillars of the food safety system in the emirate, including the municipality’s electronic food product registration system, which includes more than 1.5 million food items, in addition to the licensing and permit system for food establishments, food control and inspection procedures, as well as studies and policies regulating the food sector.
The workshop included a detailed explanation of the procedures associated with these pillars, and their role in enhancing the efficiency of the food safety system and raising compliance levels among food companies and institutions. The workshop concluded with an open dialogue session for questions and answers, which gave participants the opportunity to ask their inquiries about the various topics raised, where Dubai Municipality specialists provided practical answers and clarifications that supported the participating food establishment representatives’ understanding of the relevant requirements and procedures.
