"Space 42" Announces the entry of three moons "Foresight" Full operation phase

ABU DHABI, June 9, 2018 (WAM) – Space 42, a space technology powered by artificial intelligence that has an established presence at the international level, announced that the Foresight-3, Foresight-4, and Foresight-5 radar satellites have entered the full operational phase.

According to a press release issued today, the step represents a new stage in the development process of the “Foresight” Earth observation constellation, which now includes five radar satellites, allowing continuous data collection and providing high-accuracy geospatial analyzes that support decision-making.

The radar satellites were manufactured in partnership with Ice Eye in Finland, supporting technology transfer and ensuring sustainable access to advanced capabilities, in addition to enhancing the localization of supply chains.

As part of this approach, basic assembly and testing operations were completed at the Space 42 Space Systems assembly and testing facility in Abu Dhabi.

Hassan Al Hosani, CEO of Smart Solutions at Space 42, said that with the Foresight-3, Foresight-4 and Foresight-5 satellites entering the full operational phase, Space 42 continues to expand its sovereign Earth observation capabilities at a higher pace and with greater stability to serve governments, various sectors and partners around the world.

He added that the cooperation with Ice Eye, in addition to the proven operational success within the Space Systems facility, contributed to enhancing sovereign capabilities to a level capable of competing and expanding in global markets, pointing out that this constellation supports the Space 42 strategy aimed at becoming the preferred partner for providing high-quality geospatial data, while consolidating the UAE’s position in a vital and rapidly growing sector.

The “Foresight-3”, “Foresight-4” and “Foresight-5” radar satellites were launched into a medium-inclination low Earth orbit to expand the coverage range, thus enhancing monitoring capabilities across regions of strategic importance inhabited by more than 90% of the world’s population.

The Foresight constellation provides radar satellite images to Space 42’s GIQ data analysis center, powered by artificial intelligence, which transforms raw data into accurate information that supports decision-making in minutes. By operating across integrated orbits, the system maintains consistent performance at all times of the day.

The constellation provides an imaging resolution of up to 25 centimetres, with the ability to photograph in various weather conditions, allowing for efficient and reliable monitoring of small changes on the Earth’s surface from space.

The GIQ Data Analysis Center also processes this data and turns it into accurate data, which contributes to reducing emergency response time by up to 90%, reducing predictive maintenance costs by up to 30%, and reducing operational deficiencies by up to 25%.

The demand for Earth observation services is witnessing rapid growth as governments and various sectors rely on geospatial analyzes to manage risks, improve operational efficiency, and support climate and security goals. By 2030, Earth observation applications are expected to contribute to generating economic value exceeding $700 billion, in addition to supporting emissions reduction efforts across multiple sectors.

The UAE is working to consolidate its position as a leading provider of advanced Earth observation capabilities, based on the National Space Strategy 2030, investments in sovereign infrastructure, and the integration of artificial intelligence technologies and local manufacturing.

The expansion of Space 42’s Foresight constellation supports this vision, by combining space data with analyzes supported by artificial intelligence.
