The Ministry of the Interior participates in the work of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) in Vienna

Vienna, June 11 / WAM / The Ministry of Interior participated in the work of the thirty-fifth session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), which was held in the Austrian capital, Vienna, within the framework of strengthening international cooperation to confront emerging crimes, and employing modern technologies and artificial intelligence to support security work and law enforcement at the national and international levels.

The Ministry, in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, organized a workshop entitled “The Importance of Law Enforcement Agencies Keeping Up with Rapid Developments in the Field of Artificial Intelligence,” which discussed the role of artificial intelligence in confronting future security challenges, enhancing the readiness of law enforcement agencies, and supporting efforts to develop international cooperation and coordinate joint action to keep pace with accelerating technological transformations.

The workshop witnessed wide participation from representatives of governments, international organizations and specialized experts, who stressed the importance of strengthening international partnerships and adopting the responsible use of modern technologies in a way that contributes to supporting security and stability, praising the active role that the UAE plays in leading international initiatives related to artificial intelligence and security work.

The Ministry of Interior also held a session entitled “Building Integrity and Environmental Protection,” in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Public Prosecution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, during which it reviewed its efforts in the field of environmental security and combating crimes affecting the environment, through the International Law Enforcement Initiative for Climate (I2LEC), which represents a model for international cooperation and employing modern technologies in supporting law enforcement efforts, and enhancing international coordination to confront environmental challenges.

During its interventions in the main sessions of the session, the Ministry of Interior reviewed its efforts to protect the digital environment, in partnership with the United Nations Regional Institute for Crime and Justice Research (UNICRI), which in turn contributed to supporting law enforcement agencies in more than (100) countries around the world, by accelerating investigation procedures into crimes of sexual exploitation online, and enhancing the efficiency of responding to these crimes.

At the conclusion of its participation, the Ministry of Interior affirmed the UAE’s commitment to continue working with its international partners to enhance security cooperation and exchange experiences and best practices, in a way that supports global efforts aimed at confronting emerging security challenges, developing innovative solutions that contribute to consolidating security and justice, and achieving a safer and more sustainable future for societies.
