"Abu Dhabi Economy" Liwa University enhances cooperation to develop talent and support innovation
ABU DHABI, July 10, 2017 (WAM) – The Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi and Liwa University signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in the areas of research and development, support innovation, develop national talent and competencies, and enhance the readiness of the workforce to meet the changing needs of the labor market, in a way that supports the priorities of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the aspirations of economic and social development.
The conclusion of the memorandum of understanding was witnessed by His Excellency Ahmed Jassim Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi, while it was signed by His Excellency Hamad Sayyah Al Mazrouei, Undersecretary of the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi, and His Excellency Dr. Ali Saeed bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Liwa University.
The memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation and coordination that contributes to exchanging knowledge and experiences, supporting applied research, and strengthening links between academic institutions and policy-making, in addition to preparing talents and competencies with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve success and prosperity in the economy of the future.
This cooperation confirms the commitment of both sides to developing national talent and competencies, enhancing the innovation system, and supporting Abu Dhabi’s transformation towards a smart, diversified, competitive, and sustainable economy. The two sides will cooperate in conducting scientific research that addresses economic, strategic and labor market priorities, including artificial intelligence and its effects on jobs, entrepreneurship, innovation, consumer protection, intellectual property rights, and the role of small and medium-sized companies in supporting the next stage of economic development.
His Excellency Hamad Sayyah Al Mazrouei said that, based on the vision of our wise leadership, the department places human development and sustainability at the heart of its plans and actions, stressing the commitment of the department, which leads economic growth and diversification efforts, to building a sustainable economy that matches the highest global levels by enhancing investments through forward-looking visions, reliable services and regulatory frameworks to empower individuals and build the economy of the future.
He added that the partnership with Liwa University is consistent with the department’s strategic objectives, as it contributes to strengthening the link between academic institutions and the labor market, ensuring that competencies are provided with the knowledge, practical experience, and skills required by the rapid developments in the economy.
He explained that by combining academic excellence, practical visions and scientific research, we seek to enhance innovation and entrepreneurship and develop specialized capabilities that support economic growth, and consolidate Abu Dhabi’s position as an attractive global destination for ambitious talents, quality investments and leading companies.
For his part, His Excellency Dr. Ali Saeed bin Harmal Al Dhaheri stressed the importance of this cooperation between Liwa University and the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi, and the positive impact it has that is reflected in strengthening the partnership between the two sides, which translates the vision and directives of our wise leadership in continuing the process of prosperity for a sustainable knowledge-based economy.
He explained that this cooperation will open horizons between the two sides to implement joint educational and applied projects and initiatives, in addition to launching research projects that enhance the quality of the performance of the national economy and anticipate its future in light of the rapid growth it is witnessing in all fields.
He said that the university is rich in academic and research expertise that makes it a scientific incubator, as it offers 37 scientific specializations in various academic degrees, including master’s degrees, as they meet the needs of the labor market in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the country, and can be employed within the framework of the partnership with the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi to advance economic growth and provide innovative solutions that consolidate its progress and growth at all local, regional and international levels.
Within the framework of this cooperation, the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi will organize lectures and knowledge exchange sessions presented by experts and specialists, covering topics including entrepreneurship, labor market developments, consumer protection, and intellectual property rights, allowing male and female students to gain practical insights into the changing business environment and the future requirements of the labor market.
The memorandum stipulates the launch of an organized training program that allows male and female students at Liwa University to join practical training programs at the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi, under professional supervision and performance evaluation, with completion certificates upon passing the training programs, which last between eight weeks and six months.
Under the partnership, the two parties are coordinating their efforts to organize workshops on labor market trends and future workforce requirements, public lectures, exhibitions, and other academic and cultural events.
Liwa University supports scientific and cultural cooperation by promoting innovation, encouraging the registration of patents, and promoting the Abu Dhabi Intellectual Property Unit platform, as well as providing use of a number of university facilities and library services for employees of the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi.
