The Saudi Manuscripts Exhibition…a heritage center with a 1,200-year-old legacy
The capital, Riyadh, is hosting, in an exceptional atmosphere, the “Saudi Manuscript Exhibition”, a cultural event that highlights the nobility of Saudi heritage and combines the fragrance of history with the innovations of the present.
The exhibition reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to preserving a heritage that extends back more than 1,200 years, proving its pioneering role in preserving human heritage and promoting global cultural dialogue.
A global cultural treasure
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the most prominent countries that preserve a wealth of original manuscripts, as it possesses 27% of rare Arabic manuscripts. In a large area extending to 6,400 square metres, the exhibition presents more than 2,000 rare manuscripts, including the collection of Al-Ahnaf Al-Akbari, which dates back more than 800 years, and the book “The Title of Glory in the History of Najd”, which narrates luminous pages from the history of the Arabian Peninsula.
An international forum for researchers and innovators
The Saudi Manuscript Exhibition provides a global platform that brings together researchers and experts, as it organizes 22 workshops and 30 dialogue sessions to review the latest methods in heritage preservation. Through these activities, visitors from all over the world can explore manuscript science and exchange ideas about restoration techniques for ancient texts.
An interactive cultural experience
The exhibition provides visitors with a unique experience through live demonstrations of manuscript restoration, in addition to a section dedicated to the aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy and the arts of writing. It also offers sand drawing shows, which combine heritage with innovation in a creative style.
