House of Wisdom in Sharjah discusses areas of cooperation with Egyptian cultural institutions


Sharjah, February 3, 2017 (WAM) – A delegation from the House of Wisdom in the Emirate of Sharjah, headed by Marwa Al Aqroubi, Executive Director, visited a number of cultural and scientific institutions in the Arab Republic of Egypt, including the Egyptian General Book Authority, the Museum of Modern Egyptian Art, and the American University in Cairo, as part of its quest to learn about the cultural and cognitive experiences of these ancient institutions, discuss ways of cooperation and exchange experiences, and explore opportunities for organizing joint exhibitions and future cultural projects that serve the Arab public and enhance cognitive and cultural dialogue.
This came on the sidelines of the House of Wisdom’s attendance at the activities of the 57th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair, which continues until February 5th, and within the framework of its keenness to expand partnerships and cooperation with actors in cultural and knowledge work in the Arab Republic of Egypt, exchange experiences with officials and experts in the field of arts and culture, and explore future cooperation horizons that contribute to the development of joint cultural initiatives and projects.
During the visit, the House of Wisdom delegation met with Dr. Iman Nabil, Director of the Museum of Egyptian Modern Art, Mohamed Talaat Ali, Advisor to the Minister of Culture for Fine and Visual Arts, and Lamia Eid, Dean of Libraries and Learning Technologies at the American University in Cairo.
The delegation also toured the departments of these institutions, during which they were briefed on their contents, artistic and creative holdings, and the work practices followed in them, in addition to discussing possible cooperation opportunities between the House of Wisdom and these institutions in various artistic and cultural events and activities.
Marwa Al-Aqroubi said: Our visit to these institutions constitutes an important milestone through which we continue to strengthen cultural cooperation with major Egyptian cultural institutions and explore opportunities for joint work in the fields of exhibitions and cultural programs, allowing the provision of rich knowledge and artistic experiences to the public, whether through exhibitions or various cultural events hosted by the House of Wisdom. We believe that Arab cultural partnerships represent a basic foundation for building an integrated knowledge scene that reflects the richness of our culture and keeps pace with future aspirations.
The visit reflects the vision of the House of Wisdom in building bridges of cultural cooperation with regional cultural institutions and highlighting the vital role of libraries as centers of creativity and knowledge in modern society, in line with the vision of the Emirate of Sharjah, the capital of Arab culture, which aims to establish knowledge as a bridge for communication and openness to the world.
This participation also comes within the strategy of the House of Wisdom to expand its network of regional partnerships and openness to influential Arab cultural institutions in a way that contributes to developing common cultural content and enriching the Arab cultural scene through qualitative cross-border experiences.
