Impeachment measures.. The opposition in South Korea escalates its movements against the president
The main opposition party in South Korea on Wednesday called on President Yoon Suk-yeol to step down, accusing him of “rebellion” after his attempt to impose martial law in the country failed.
“Even if martial law is lifted, it is impossible to avoid charges of rebellion,” Democratic Party leader Park Chan-dae said in a statement. “He must step down.”

Tragic decision
The leader of the ruling party in South Korea described President Yoon Suk-yeol’s decision to impose martial law in the country as tragic, calling for “all those responsible” to be held accountable for this failed attempt.
“The president must directly and comprehensively explain this tragic situation, and all those responsible for this matter must be held strictly accountable,” Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, told reporters in a live television broadcast.
Lifting martial law
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol announced on Tuesday/Wednesday night the lifting of martial law, hours after it was imposed, and accused the opposition of forming “anti-state” forces.

The declaration of martial law caused a crisis that was denounced by the opposition, and raised international concern, especially among its ally, the United States.
