المملكة: “COP16″… “Geospatial” announces its joining the Planet Earth Observation Group

The General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information announced its joining the Group on Earth Observations to represent the Kingdom within the framework of its competence to regulate the surveying, geospatial information and imaging sector related to its work in the Kingdom.
Geospatial joining the GEO Group aims to enhance the role of geospatial information in creating smart solutions to confront environmental challenges, leading to a promising integrated system in which emerging sciences and technologies are united towards a sustainable environment.

Planet Earth observation

This came during the participation of the Head of Geospatial Affairs, Engineer Mohammed bin Yahya Al Sayel, in the high-level dialogue session held entitled (Addressing the Earth through Technology and Spatial Intelligence) during the work of the sixteenth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16), which the Kingdom is hosting during Period 2 – 13 December in the capital, Riyadh.

It is noteworthy that the group was founded in 2005 during the Third Earth Observation Summit in Brussels to represent a global cooperation aimed at understanding planet Earth in all its aspects. It connects government, academic and research agencies, data providers, private companies, scientists and experts with each other.
The group aims to create innovative solutions to global challenges related to the environment and climate change, and to enhance international cooperation to mobilize efforts and capabilities to monitor the Earth and the changes that may occur to it.
