Targeting oil tankers.. The European Union imposes new sanctions on Russia

The 27 European Union countries agreed on Wednesday to impose a new round of sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, and the sanctions target the Kremlin’s oil tanker fleet, the Hungarian Presidency of the European Union said on the X platform.
The latest round of punitive measures prevents about 50 new ships from shipping Russian oil and petroleum products from European Union ports and from using the services of European companies.

Sanctions on Russia

The European Union had already imposed sanctions on more than 24 ships transporting Russian oil last June.
Russia has long been accused of using ships that are not owned by Western shipping companies or insured by Western insurance companies to evade the ceiling set by Western countries on the prices of Russian oil exports to countries that are not members of the European Union.
