Including 4 million euros… new European aid to Syria

The European Commission announced the establishment of a humanitarian air bridge to Syria via Türkiye, in the first such European assistance since the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
In total, the European Union-funded aid flights will provide about 50 tons of medical supplies from European Union warehouses in Dubai.

European aid to Syria

This aid will be transported to Adana in Turkey for distribution across the border in the coming days, and additional aid weighing 46 tons will be transported by trucks from Denmark to Adana before it is distributed in Syria, according to the statement.
The European Commission will also release four million euros, bringing its total humanitarian aid in Syria to 163 million euros this year.

Medical care in Syria

This new amount will cover the costs of emergency care rations, basic medical supplies, emergency shelter supplies and medical supplies, as well as facilitating the distribution of food rations in northern Syria.

The European Commissioner for Emergency Humanitarian Aid, Hajja Habib, indicated on her “X” account that she is “closely following the development of the situation in Syria” and is “in contact with partners in the region.”

Armed factions in Syria

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that since the start of the armed factions’ attack in Syria on November 27, about 1.1 million people have been displaced, the majority of whom are women and children.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen explained, “The assistance we provide to the Syrian people is increasingly important in light of the volatile situation.”
Following an 11-day attack, armed factions led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham seized power in Damascus, ending the Assad family’s rule that had lasted more than half a century.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his deep concern about the recent intensified violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, in particular hundreds of Israeli air strikes on several sites in Syria.
