Al Gergawi inspects the achievement at the Mohammed bin Rashid Cardiac Medical Complex in Cairo

The Secretary-General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, visited the Magdi Yacoub Foundation for Cardiac Diseases and Research, where he met with the world-class Egyptian heart surgeon Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub.
During the visit, in which he was accompanied by the UAE Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Maryam Al Kaabi, and the Assistant Secretary-General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, Saeed Al Eter, Al Gergawi was briefed on the stages of work and the scale of achievement. In the medical buildings complex of the Magdi Yacoub International Heart Center in Cairo, which bears the name of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, he patronized God.
He listened to an explanation from the center’s work teams about the next steps to complete the medical building complex and all the necessary equipment, and the mechanisms used to overcome the challenges during the construction period.
Al-Gergawi stressed that the UAE continues to support the leading humanitarian institutions in the Arab region and the world, in a way that translates the directives of its leadership in improving the lives of societies for the better, and supports every charitable effort aimed at meeting the basic needs of its children, especially medical care and assistance to patients from different age and social segments. Those facing difficult economic circumstances.
He appreciated the great role played by the Magdi Yacoub International Heart Center in Cairo, in helping heart patients in the Arab Republic of Egypt and neighboring countries.
Last September, the UAE provided new support to the Magdi Yacoub Foundation for Heart Diseases and Research at a value of 220 million dirhams, to contribute to the completion of the Magdi Yacoub International Heart Center in Cairo, bringing the total support provided to the institution to about 320 million dirhams, under the umbrella of the “Mohamed bin Mohammed Initiatives” Foundation. Rashid Al Maktoum International”, as the new buildings will increase the center’s capacity to accommodate up to 120,000 outpatients and 12,000 surgical operations. Annually, with a total of 132 thousand patients annually.
Thanks to the support provided by the UAE, totaling 320 million dirhams, work is underway today to complete the biomedical project for the Magdi Yacoub International Heart Center, and to build a new facility on an area of 35.67 acres in 6th of October City, where the new facility focuses in particular on enhancing capabilities. In the treatment of newborns suffering from complex congenital heart diseases, with the aim of providing the opportunity for sick children of this age group to live a normal life of up to 95%.
The new facility includes an integrated main center that includes five operating rooms, five catheterization laboratories, a diagnostic and imaging center, in addition to 300 beds and 36 outpatient clinics. The center seeks to increase the number of graduates from training programs three times the current number, to reach 2,625, by training 1,750 new health professionals annually.
