Despite her expectation of victory, an Arab-origin candidate was defeated in the Miss France contest

The candidate, whose father is Algerian and whose mother is Moroccan, Sabah Aib (18 years old), was excluded from winning the Miss France crown, even though polls considered her to be the most likely candidate for the title won by another candidate.

She was a second-year law student at the French University of Lille. Last October, she won the Miss Contest in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region neighboring Belgium in northern France, and since then she has been subjected to racist attacks.

Aib spent more than a month defending herself and repeating to local media: “We consider ourselves French, and my origin is part of my history, but it does not define who I am,” in response to those who were angry about her nomination as the first North African to participate in the competition, which she considered “ A victory for diversity,” she said.

She also wrote on her Instagram account that those who were angry about her nomination for the competition in which 29 female candidates competed against her were “nothing more than ignorant” and that her name is part of her identity and has nothing to do with her nationality. “France is a multicultural country, and my name coming from another place does not change the fact that I am French.” “.

However, Sabah Aib did not emerge from the competition with the crown, as the polls predicted for her. Rather, a panel of judges consisting of 6 women elected her to the title of first runner-up, and instead of her, they chose for the first title Angelique Angarne Philippon, Miss Martinique, an island in the Caribbean Sea belonging to France. She is 34 years old. (Russia Today)
