The Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee discusses the first report submitted by the Sultanate of Oman

The sixty-third meeting of the Arab Charter Committee for Human Rights began at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, headed by Counselor Jaber Al-Marri, Chairman of the Arab Charter Committee for Human Rights.

The meeting witnesses the twenty-sixth session of the Committee, Which was allocated to discuss the first report of the Sultanate of Oman over two days. This measure comes as a continuation of the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to the Arab Charter on Human Rights.

It is worth noting that the Sultanate of Oman is the newest country. Which deposited the instrument of accession to the Arab Charter on Human Rights, in 2023, and submitted its first national report to the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States in August 2024, and the report addresses the measures taken by the Sultanate of Oman to implement the rights and freedoms stipulated in the Charter since its accession. 

 The 26th session of the Committee meets to discuss the progress made by the Sultanate of Oman in the field of implementing its legal obligations in accordance with the Charter And on several axes, including (the goals of the Charter, the right to life and physical integrity, the right to equality and non-discrimination, civil and political freedoms, the fight against slavery and trafficking in persons, the judiciary and the right to resort to it, the right to freedom of opinion and expression, the right to health, the right to education, the protection of the family, especially women and children, and others), in accordance with the provisions of the Arab Charter. for human rights.

It is worth noting that the sessions of the discussion session will witness the presence of a number of representatives of the permanent delegations to the League of Arab States, in addition to the Arab Parliament, the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights, the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions, and the Council of Interior Ministers.
