Unanimously… Nabil Fahmy is Secretary-General of the Arab League, succeeding Ahmed Aboul Gheit

Today, Arab foreign ministers unanimously approved the nomination of Ambassador Nabil Fahmy as Secretary-General of the Arab League. In their virtual meeting today, the Arab foreign ministers unanimously approved Egypt’s request to nominate him as a successor to Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
Today, the work of the Arab League Council began at the level of permanent delegates, in preparation for the ministerial meeting scheduled to be held at a later time, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League.

The meeting witnessed the handover of the presidency of the new session of the Council from the United Arab Emirates, represented by Ambassador Hamad Al Zaabi, to the Kingdom of Bahrain, during the opening session.

Bahrain’s representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Fawzia Zainal, confirmed that the region faces unprecedented challenges that threaten Arab national security, praising the role that the UAE played during its previous presidency in supporting and strengthening joint Arab action.
