The honey market in Mahayil…an economic window for local products in Asir

Mahayil Asir Governorate (80 kilometers northwest of Abha) is witnessing great economic activity these days with the onset of winter and the arrival of visitors from various regions and governorates of the Kingdom.
It is located in the middle of the governorate, which has been considered one of the important commercial centers in Asir since ancient times, to which sellers and buyers come from all regions of the Kingdom because it contains different types of local honey, which is famous for its production. The governorates and the center located in Tihama Asir, such as Mahayil, Rijal Alma’, Al-Majaridah, Barq, and Qena.

Honey market in Muhayil

The seller, Muhammad Ahmed Al-Haili, points out that the market is considered the largest of its kind in the region, as it contains the most famous and finest ones, such as Al-Sidr, Al-Samra, Al-Talh, and Al-Majar, and is sold in wholesale or by kilograms, indicating that the market is witnessing a large presence of sellers and buyers from other regions such as Al-Baha, Najran, Jizan, and even Some areas of the north and west of the Kingdom.

Regarding the most prominent types of honey available in large quantities, “Al-Haili” stated that the current season witnessed good production of “Sidr” honey, in addition to “Al-Dahyan” honey and “Al-Qurm” honey, which are the most prominent types currently offered, and prices range between 600 riyals and 300 riyals, depending on the type and quality. In addition to the available quantities, beekeepers are awaiting winter production of “Salam” honey and “Samra” honey.

Al-Haili confirms that the market is open to all beekeepers and honey marketers from any region of the Kingdom, as the Municipality of Mahayil has provided the appropriate location and the required services.

He pointed out that Friday and Saturday witness a large demand from sellers and buyers because they coincide with the weekend during which the Muhayil Governorate receives large numbers of visitors and tourists to enjoy the warm atmosphere and various tourist activities.

Local products

The honey market is one of the parts of the popular market, which includes other corners for locally made products and tools, such as agricultural tools, aromatic plants, sesame oil, grains, ghee, and sites for artisans.

Mahayil Governorate occupies a distinguished location in the middle of Tihama and Asir and at the crossroads of the main road network. It also represents the good economic situation, the city’s potential for growth, and the availability of many government services and public facilities, as well as its warm climate in the winter, which makes it in demand for residents of highland areas.
