The UAE is champion of the second edition of the Gulf Cricket Championship

Dubai, December 22 / WAM / The UAE cricket team was crowned champion of the second edition of the Gulf Championship, which Dubai hosted over two weeks with the participation of 6 Gulf teams: the “host” UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and the defending champion, Oman.

The UAE team won the title at the expense of the Kuwaiti team during the final match that brought them together yesterday evening at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, which witnessed a peak of excitement and rivalry between the two teams, at the end of which the UAE team succeeded in achieving victory in the last seconds.

Zayed Abbas, member of the Emirates Cricket Council and the official spokesman for the Council, honored the UAE team with the championship cup and honored the Kuwaiti team with the second place cup. Representatives of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and representatives of the six participating Gulf teams also participated in the honoring ceremony.

During its journey in the tournament, the UAE national team achieved 5 victories over Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait “twice”, and lost one match, which was against Saudi Arabia.

Zayed Abbas dedicated the Gulf title to His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Council, for his continuous and great support for the sport of cricket at the state level, expressing his happiness with the Gulf title, which is considered an important addition to the record of the UAE national team’s excellence and development in the field of the game, promising to maintain its reputation. This superiority will lead to more Gulf, continental and international gains in the coming years.
