World Food Programme: The food crisis is worsening in Sudan

The World Food Program stated – in a report published on its website today, Tuesday – that the two UN agencies urged immediate access to humanitarian aid and to take measures to avoid what could become the worst food crisis in modern history. < /span>
The report stated that four months after famine was confirmed in Zamzam camp in North Darfur state, Sudan, additional areas in North Darfur and the Western Nuba Mountains were identified as suffering from widespread famine conditions.
This comes in light of the continued deterioration of access to food and nutrition for millions of people across the country, according to warnings by the World Food Program and UNICEF today.
The latest report of the Famine Review Committee of the Integrated Interim Classification for Food Security also revealed confirmed data on the occurrence of famine in at least five regions in Sudan. They are Zamzam, Abu Shouk and Al Salam camps in North Darfur and the Western Nuba Mountains, which are areas that include local residents as well as internally displaced people.
