المملكة: “Statistics”… Increasing the area of land and marine reserves in the Kingdom for the year 2023

While marine reserves recorded an increase in their area in 2023 by 17.7%, reaching 14 thousand square kilometers compared to the previous year.
Amounts of rain and floods
The Authority stated in the Environmental Statistics Bulletin for 2023, which it issued today, Wednesday, that the annual average rainfall recorded an increase of 152 millimeters, or 53.4%, over the year 2022.
The amount of flood water entering the dams for the year 2023 recorded an increase of 164.1% compared to the previous year, reaching 1,564 million cubic metres.
Treated water and green spaces
The results of the bulletin revealed an increase in the volume of treated water reused for the year 2023 by 13.3% compared to the previous year, as it constituted 25.2% of the volume of treated water for the year 2023, and the results showed a decrease in the amount of collected waste by 4.6%, reaching 19.8 million tons compared to the year 2022.
It showed an increase in the area of green areas in the municipal sector by 3.2%, and an increase in the area of gardens and parks in the municipal sector by 1.4% compared to 2022, and the area of national parks reached 340 million square meters in 2023, and the number of trees planted in them reached 2.6 million trees.
It is noteworthy that the Environmental Statistics Bulletin was prepared in accordance with the general framework for environmental statistics prepared by the United Nations. The bulletin relies on two main sources: statistics from the General Authority for Statistics (censuses and sample surveys), and statistics from administrative records sources including the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing. The Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, the General Water Authority, and environmental centers.
