China imposes sanctions against 7 companies over military aid to Taiwan

The Chinese government on Friday imposed sanctions on seven companies in reaction to the recent US announcement of military sales and aid to Taiwan, the self-governing island that Beijing claims as part of its territory.
The sanctions also come in reaction to the recent passage of the US government’s annual defense spending bill, which a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement said “includes several negative parts related to China.”

US aid to Taiwan

China protests US military aid to Taiwan, and often imposes sanctions on the companies involved after announcing sales deals or aid packages.
These sanctions have a limited impact because American defense companies do not sell weapons or any military equipment to China, and it is noteworthy that the United States is the main supplier of weapons to Taiwan.
Last week, US President Joe Biden agreed to provide materials and services from the US Department of Defense, as well as military training and education to Taiwan, with a total value of $571 million.
