"Sanofi Pharmaceuticals" French launches the first innovation and operations center in China

Chengdu, 21 March / WAM / The French pharmaceutical company Sanofi officially launched its first innovation and operations center in China in the city of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province in southwestern China, which is a major step in expanding the company’s presence in this country.
Madeleine Roche, Executive Vice President and Head of Business Operations at the company, said that the decision to establish the center in Chengdu reflects Sanofi’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of global innovation.
She added that Chengdu’s important role in the biopharmaceutical sector, along with its wealth of competencies and vibrant innovation ecosystem, makes it an ideal location to expand Sanofi’s capabilities and deepen its presence in China.
The center oversees operations ranging from research and development and clinical trials to supply chain services, with plans to have more than 600 specialized jobs by the end of 2026.
This new center is already linked to the company’s operations centers in countries including India, Hungary, Malaysia, Colombia and Spain, forming an integrated and effective network globally.
Headquartered in Paris, Sanofi first entered the Chinese market in 1982 by opening a local office, while it currently operates several production and R&D facilities across the country, including four R&D centers in Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu and Suzhou.
In 2025, the company began establishing a new manufacturing base for active pharmaceutical ingredients for insulin in Beijing, with a total investment of 1 billion euros (about 1.16 billion US dollars).
