Volkswagen announces the leak of data for 800,000 electric cars

A subsidiary of German automaker Volkswagen has reportedly left personal data available online for several months.
The German magazine Spiegel explained that a data leak in the software company Cariad made the movement data of 800,000 vehicles and contact information for their owners available through the Amazon subsidiary.

Reports stated that the exact location data of 460,000 vehicles produced by Volkswagen, Seat, Audi and Skoda could be accessed.

The Volkswagen Group said the error has since been corrected, and sensitive information such as passwords or payment data was not affected.

Computational Chaos Club

According to the statement, no one accessed the data except the hacking group known as the “Computer Chaos Club,” which alerted Cariad to the error on November 26.
The statement indicated that the data affected by the leak is that which relates only to specific vehicles that were registered for online services and activated online communication.
