Internationally wanted… the founder of cryptocurrencies is extradited to America
After a long legal struggle, South Korea, Kwon’s original homeland, and the United States submitted two requests for Kwon’s extradition.

Prosecutors in both countries accuse Kwon of fraud, among other charges, and Kwon was arrested in Montenegro, a country bordering the Adriatic Sea, in March 2023.
Recently, the Supreme Court of Montenegro ruled that the two extradition requests were legally valid, leaving it to the Minister of Justice to choose between the two countries requesting extradition.
Kwon had created the Terra and Luna cryptocurrencies in Singapore. However, the Terra and Luna cryptocurrency system collapsed in May last year, leaving investors with nothing, and the bankruptcy was said to have caused losses amounting to $40 billion.

Kwon disappeared, and Interpol (the International Criminal Police Organization) issued an international arrest warrant for him in September.
In March 2023, Kwon and his business partner Hon Chand Yuen were arrested in Montenegro’s capital, Podgorica, while trying to travel to Dubai on fake Costa Rican passports.
They were sentenced to several months in prison in Montenegro on charges of forging documents, and were later detained and awaiting extradition.
According to media reports in Montenegro, Kwon’s business partner was extradited to South Korea at the beginning of this year.
