Trump links the deadly attack in New Orleans to irregular immigration

US President-elect Donald Trump linked the deadly truck attack on a crowd in New Orleans on Wednesday to irregular immigration, the issue that was the focus of his election victory.
At least 10 people were killed and 35 others were injured when a pickup truck ran over a crowd of New Year’s revelers in a tourist neighborhood in the American city of New Orleans, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) opened an investigation into a “terrorist act.”

Trump wrote on social media, “When I said that the criminals coming (to the country) are much worse than the criminals in the country, it turns out that this is true.” He also said that the crime rate in the country “has reached a level that no one has ever seen before.”
The attack occurred at approximately 3:15 am on Wednesday (09:15 GMT), in an area crowded with New Year’s revelers on Canal and Bourbon Streets in the famous historical and tourist district known as the “French Quarter.”
CBS News quoted witnesses as saying that a truck driving “very fast” hit the crowd before its driver jumped out and started shooting, prompting the police to respond.
