Agricultural drones lead China’s low-altitude aviation development

BEIJING, 2nd January, 2017 (WAM) — Former chief engineer of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, Yin Shijun, confirmed that agricultural drones are now leading the development of the low-altitude aviation economy in China.

The economic daily newspaper, Economic Daily, quoted Shi Jun as saying that agricultural drones have witnessed great development in their uses to include pest control, agriculture, fertilization, and transportation. In this context, he pointed to the success of Hubei Province’s experience in using this technology to transport oranges and spray pesticides, which reduced costs by about 30 million yuan.

Official statistics showed that drone flying hours recorded a significant jump during the year 2023 to reach 4.12 million hours, an increase of 2.18 million hours compared to the previous year, while agricultural aircraft accounted for 98.27% of the total operations.
