Two prisoners assaulted another who tortured his daughter to death

Two inmates at Belmarsh Prison in London assaulted Irfan Sharif, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for torturing and killing his ten-year-old daughter, Sarah, according to what the British newspaper “The Sun” reported on Friday.

The newspaper explained that on January 1, the two men attacked Sharif (43 years old) with the sharp metal lid of a tuna can, which resulted in him being injured in the face and neck.

The child, of English-Pakistani origin, Sarah Sharif, died from beatings in August 2023 after being subjected to years of abuse by her father, Irfan, and his wife. The British followed through the trial sessions the painful details of what the girl suffered.

London police confirmed that they were investigating the attack on a “43-year-old prisoner” in Belmarsh maximum security prison in southeast London, explaining that “his injuries do not put his life in danger.”

A spokesman for the prison administration also confirmed the assault on a prisoner, without revealing his identity.

In mid-December, Irfan Sharif and his wife Binash Batool (30 years old) were sentenced to life imprisonment for killing the child.

This trial has shocked the UK, both because of the horrific violence to which the child was subjected and the missed opportunities that could have saved her.

The judge said that day, “It is not an exaggeration to describe what the child was subjected to as torture.” For more than an hour, he explained the rationale for his decision, detailing the “heinous” actions that the child had faced.

The child’s uncle, Faisal Malik (29 years old), who lived with the couple in Woking (southwest of London) for eight months, was convicted of “causing or making her murder possible.” He was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
