The hostage-taking operation in the French Arles prison ended with the detainee surrendering himself

The hostage-taking operation that continued since Friday afternoon in Arles prison in southern France ended without any casualties, with the surrender of the inmate who held five people in the medical unit, according to security sources.
The police department in the Bouches-du-Rhone region said, “The hostage taker surrendered and there were no injuries.”
Sources in the police and the facility had told Agence France-Presse that a prisoner carrying a knife and suffering from “major psychological disorders” was detaining four nurses and a guard.
A prison source indicated that the man does not have any “terrorist file.”
The 37-year-old man was arrested on charges of rape at gunpoint. He said he wanted to “change the prison,” according to what a source familiar with the matter said.
