Al Ain, 3 January / WAM / Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, and Head of the Presidential Office, the activities of the first session of the “Al Ain Dates Festival” began today in the city of Al Ain, and will continue until January 8 of this year.

The launch of the festival activities was witnessed by His Excellency Fares Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, His Excellency Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi, His Excellency Abdullah Mubarak Al Muhairi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, and Their Excellencies, notables from the city of Al Ain, and the executive directors of sectors in the Authority.

On its first day, the festival received 2,025 kilograms of dates participating in the “Al Ain Elite” auction from 27 contestants, and it also received 600 cartons with a total of 2,000 kilograms to participate in the date auction.

The festival, organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, aims to highlight the historical status of the palm tree as an Emirati heritage, deepening awareness of Emirati heritage and heritage, in addition to highlighting the historical importance of the city of Al Ain and introducing its heritage, economic and agricultural potential.

The festival also seeks to educate community members and encourage them to practice the palm heritage, which deepens their sense of patriotism by introducing palm products, and stimulates the exchange of experiences between farmers to learn about the best practices and methods of palm care, which contributes to enhancing the economic mobility of farm owners.

The festival includes 7 date competitions for which 70 prizes worth 1,756,000 dirhams were allocated in the categories of “Al Ain Elite”, “Al Khalas”, “Al Fard”, “Al Dabbas”, “Bu Maan”, “Al Shishi”, and “Al Zamili”.

The festival also witnesses the organization of a daily date auction, which aims to highlight the quality of local date production and highlights the most prominent types of distinctive dates in the Emirates, with the aim of encouraging farmers to ensure the sustainability of date production and development.

The festival offers its visitors various activities with the participation of government agencies, especially pavilions that provide interactive programs and awareness platforms for farmers and visitors, as part of the events theater programs, which also offers heritage and entertainment segments that include a number of daily events and competitions for which valuable prizes have been allocated, including the competition for the most beautiful traditional costume for children, and the question competition.
