Trump’s first comment on flying flags at half-staff on the day of his inauguration to mourn Carter
President Joe Biden ordered flags to be flown at half-mast for 30 days on federal buildings in honor of the late President Jimmy Carter, who died on Sunday at the age of 100, and a state funeral will be held next week.
Trump’s inauguration
But Trump was surprised at how the nation would be in a state of mourning at his inauguration ceremony and his swearing-in on January 20, before his return to the White House after a turbulent first term.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform: “No one wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it.”

The decision to lower the flags at half-mast
The Republican billionaire made a baseless accusation that “all” Democrats are happy because “our wonderful American flag will be at half-mast during my inauguration.”
Trump added: “They don’t like our country, they only think about themselves,” hinting at the possibility of issuing an order to raise the flags again on the day of his inauguration by saying that lowering the flags “may happen” and ending his words with the phrase, “Let’s see how things go.”
But the White House put an end to any speculation, as its spokeswoman, Karine Jean-Pierre, said in response to a question about whether it was possible to reconsider Biden’s decision to lower the flags at half-mast: “No.”
