"Al Ain Dates" ..Activities that celebrate national heritage and highlight the development of the agricultural sector

Al Ain, January 5 / WAM / Al Ain Dates Festival includes a group of activities that celebrate the country’s national heritage and highlight the agricultural renaissance process and the great development it has witnessed, especially in date palm cultivation.
The first session of the Al Ain Dates Festival will be held in the Hili Oasis in the city of Al Ain, organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, and will continue until January 8.
The Al Ain Dates Festival’s photo exhibition extends on both sides of the main corridor, which leads visitors to learn about the festival’s activities, ranging from heritage and entertainment to date and honey shops, traditional crafts workshops, and other activities that the festival site abounds in the Hili Oasis in Al Ain.
The pictures in the exhibition document some of the efforts of the late founding leader Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “may God rest his soul,” in the field of agriculture in general, and palm cultivation in particular. We find pictures that record special moments in this regard with his personal participation and follow-up, such as planting palm trees and launching… Water in Aflaj, and inspecting various agricultural projects.
The pictures also show Sheikh Zayed’s connection to palm trees, which he worked to expand its cultivation since, which resulted in a significant increase in their numbers in the country, which is currently estimated at more than 42 million palm trees, 8.5% of which are in the Al Ain region.
Al Ain Dates Festival is among the festivals whose objectives are inspired by the thought of Sheikh Zayed, in terms of paying special attention to palm trees, the state’s care for which is evident in providing them with advanced technical, agricultural and extension services.
In a related context, the Al-Sararid Heritage Corridor at the Al Ain Dates Festival attracted the attention of visitors with its creative design that combines authentic Emirati heritage with a modern cultural character.
The corridor is one of the most prominent additions to the festival, as its ceiling was designed using sararid, which are vessels made of wicker, which represent one of the traditional Emirati handicrafts.
The meticulously designed heritage ceiling displays the beauty of the strings that were used in the past to preserve and transport dates, while they have been reintroduced today to become an artistic element that highlights the heritage identity in a contemporary style.
This corridor was constructed by hanging a large group of colorful crickets along its length, making it a major attraction for festival visitors looking for the aesthetics of local heritage.
The corridor aims to revive Emirati heritage by blending traditional aesthetics with modern standards, reflecting the spirit of innovation and pride in heritage identity.
In addition to the Sararid Corridor, the festival includes rich heritage details, as part of its vision to celebrate and promote Emirati heritage at the local and international levels.
