The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities participates in the meeting of the Senate Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Information Committee

 

Sherif Fathi, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, participated in the meeting of the Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Media Committee of the Senate, which was held to discuss the future of tourism in Egypt, headed by Dr. Representative Mahmoud Muslim, Chairman of the Committee. 

 

Sherif Fathi reviewed, during the meeting, indicators of incoming tourist traffic to Egypt during the year 2024, which witnessed an achievement A record number in the history of tourism in Egypt, as Egypt received 15.7 million tourists from various tourism markets despite the geopolitical conditions taking place in the region.

 

He indicated that this was achieved in light of what it provides. Mr. Sherif Fathi pointed out the need to establish New hotel rooms to be distributed among various different tourist destinations and in light of the extent of tourists arriving there, reviewing the details of the financing initiatives recently proposed by the Egyptian state, of which one of these initiatives has been completed and which was implemented in cooperation with the Ministry Finance and the Central Bank of Egypt to support the tourism sector with a value of 50 billion pounds.

 

 He explained that there are a large number of companies that have applied to benefit from it in the field of making expansions, completing incomplete projects, and working Replacement and renovation, which will add 40,000 new hotel rooms to the existing hotel capacity throughout the Republic, noting that work is underway to introduce other initiatives during the coming period to establish hotels. He added that in order to encourage tourism investment, a bank of available investment opportunities will be established to prepare a unified investment map with all available tourism investment opportunities and market them inside and outside Egypt. He explained that the objectives of this strategy are to achieve tourism economic security, pointing out that this means achieving sustainability, direct and indirect returns on society, and societal development of the environment surrounding the various tourist and archaeological sites. And the citizens there, which reflects positively on their behavior and their keenness to preserve these areas, explaining that this can be achieved in cooperation with various civil society institutions.

 

The Minister spoke about the electronic training platform Learning Management. System, which the Ministry is currently working on establishing to train, qualify and raise the efficiency of all employees of the Ministry and the private sector, explaining that training programs are being organized with the Egyptian Federation of Chambers of Tourism and Tourism.

 

He also referred to the meeting he held with the deans of the faculties of tourism and hotels at the republic level to discuss ways to develop education and training systems for students of the faculties of tourism and hotels, unify concepts related to tourism work, and discuss Mechanisms for linking academic and theoretical education, training and practical experience in a way that improves graduates’ skills, which reflects positively on developing and raising the efficiency of the human element within the sector.

 

The Minister explained that work is underway. To prepare an integrated general strategic master plan for the various tourist areas, such as the development of the area extending from Sphinx Airport to the Saqqara area, which includes the Giza Pyramids area and the Grand Egyptian Museum, to determine the locations of hotels, their heights, and entertainment places, so that there is planning and a visual vision for the area, ensuring that its archaeological and heritage character is not affected.  

 

The Minister stressed the importance of raising tourism and archaeological awareness for all segments of society, especially children in schools. And universities and introducing them to the importance of tourism to the national economy and the value of the antiquities, museums and archaeological sites that Egypt owns, which are part of their history and the heritage of their country, in a way that contributes to their preservation.
